After a one-year break, the triathlon event of the year was once again successfully held in Zell am See-Kaprun thanks to a comprehensive safety concept. Athletes from 69 nations around the world competed for victory on 29 August 2021. At the 9th edition of the IRONMAN 70.3 Zell am See-Kaprun, Germany's Laura Philipp once again showed that she is one of the best triathletes in the world and secured a convincing victory. In the men's race, Germany's Jan Stratmann celebrated his first IRONMAN 70.3 triumph. Local hero Lukas Hollaus secured an outstanding second place one month after his Olympic appearance.

Lake Zell was heaving, clouds covered the mountain peaks at the challenging bike course. The athletes were well prepared and, with extensive safety measures, the IRONMAN 70.3 Zell am See-Kaprun was a great event after a one-year break. Once again, a local top athlete secured one of the places on the winners’ rostrum at the ninth edition of this event.

Barely five and a half minutes after Jan Stratmann, the first to cross the finish line, there was again a real buzz - local hero and Olympic participant Lukas Hollaus took second place after a courageous race. Still in fourth place after the bike, Hollaus stepped it up a notch in running and was able to overtake his compatriots Paul Ruttmann and Georg Enzenberger. While Ruttmann could not finish the race, Enzenberger secured 3rd place.

Germany's Jan Stratmann won the IRONMAN 70.3 competition for the first time in his career at IRONMAN 70.3 Zell am See-Kaprun. Stratmann was already the first to come out of the water and did not relinquish his lead until the finish. The 26-year-old German crossed the finish line after 3:59:42 and could justifiably celebrate following a strong performance.

Laura Philipp won for the third time in Zell am See-Kaprun. After the swim in Lake Zell, still just behind the Italian Margie Santimaria, Philipp changed fastest and got on the bike first. Philipp won the women's race in 4:21:49, more than ten minutes ahead of her compatriot Anne Reischmann. Third place went to Kaidi Kivioja from Estonia.
